Hello..this is my story..
by Lozhasleft ini'm pleased to have found this site...i've browsed a little ...read quite a lot and gasped at some stories, giggled at the one liners and nodded in recognition of others' strong opinions and can relate to a great deal.. i'll try and keep my intro as brief as possible for anyone kind enough to listen.. i got involved with the witnesses in the late 70's in the uk.
i was in my early 20s and had had a love and fascination for the bible since my difficult childhood.
i soon brought my life into 'line' although it took a long time for me to pack up the smoking which didnt go down well in those days when 6 months of study should have been enough and if you hadnt cracked it then it was suggested that you were some kind of loser.... i reared my 4 children in the 'truth' as well as i could but i cant claim that we were a 'strong' family in their terms...just muddled along really..my husband at the time was a very difficult and abusive man and home life wasnt easy for any of us with his anger, jealousy and violence.

Informal poll...Which Meeting was the most boring for you? Which one did you stop attending first?
by mindmelda infor me, it was always the theocratic ministry school/field service meeting.. strangely, i never minded giving talks, because i always wanted to perform and have virtually no stage fright.
but, listening to some of the deadly dull talks used to make me look at the clock a lot.
i always felt sorry for some poor slob who had to give his first bible reading on something like job's daughters raping him after getting him drunk.. i swear i think our school overseer did it on purpose because he was a mean sob.. and, i hated field slavery as my parents became witnesses when i was about 12, never did get a good attitude about it.

The book study was the first. All that rushing home from work, having a bite to eat then a quick shower and get dressed for a one hour meeting? Then our TMS/Ministry meeting was on the next night and it was exhausting!!!!
So I started to alternate between the book study and TMS meetings until I started to avoid both of them, and only attended the Sunday meetings when I felt like it.

Hahaha…. We had very similar parents, although we were allowed to watch tv at the motel room.
Remember witnessing during the convention? The Friday afternoon would be set aside for witnessing in the host city’s territory.
Thanks for the memories (at least we can laugh about it now).

New System Property Rights and Animals
by cameo-d ina jw told me that in the new system when all the "good people" who have ever lived return to live on the earth again, that there will be enough land on the earth that everyone will get about 1 acre to live on.
is this a wt teaching?.
in the system we have now, the number of animals you are allowed to have depends (in some places) on the amount of acreage you have.

The 1 acre idea comes from a secular quote back from the 80s or 90s, if I remember correctly, which once stated that all that is needed for each individual to adequately survive is approx 1 acre per person. This is for growing crops, vegetables, housing etc.
It’s not a teaching per se, just an idea from that quote.

so why dont they cut to the chase at the door???
by oompa inas in..."hi, my name is soa fraid and i hope you will accept my offer for a free home bible study.
the reason you should accept this free offer is that our leaders, the men who have compiled the material for this study receive direct communication from god, and he speaks to no other religion on earth.
they then write down what god has told them to, and publish it in a zillion languages so that we can teach people what god really meant in his new world translation of the holy scriptures...you may refer to it as the bible.

dpg,
Ok, I didn’t realise you had replied earlier. Those automatic avatars are annoying because after a while they all look alike, rather than having distinctive or personal avatars.
Anyway, as far as “rejection” goes, you knew not to take it personally, and as the others have said, finding an interested person was worse because that meant you had to use your brain!! Not to mention it interrupted the conversation you may have been having with your witnessing partner!
And of course we see why the householders said no to us. They all have their reasons, no matter how perfect our spiel may have been.

Jordon,
You need to remember than many many people have been hurt by the Watchtower Society’s teachings, if not by individuals (particularly elders), and they have a great deal of anger and disappointment towards the JWs.
People have been hurt by the lies the WTS has told, the pedophile abuse scandals, the unloving ways JWs have acted, family shunning and many many other reasons.
Thus, they will speak out against the WTS in negative tones.
Sorry if you don’t like it, but maybe you have to walk in our shoes before you will ever understand.
